Under-the-radar scholarships

Our workshops are an opportunity for writers to receive real, sustained feedback on their work from a talented instructor and from a group of encouraging peers. Workshops are also a chance for writers to grow their work– their voice, style, and confidence. We think these things are worth paying for.

If you and your writing are ready to make a longterm commitment to each other in one of our workshops, but your bank account is not so sure, consider applying for one of the Frequency scholarships (see available ones below).

Frequency has four more $200 scholarships available! If you’d like to apply, just send us a writing sample by January 20, 2013. Fine print:

Anyone can apply.
Your writing sample can be in any genre. It must be no more than 5 pages.
Please don’t put your name on it. We have a small team of readers who’d prefer that all writers remain anonymous. All that will count is awesomeness.
But! Please be sure to include the title of your work(s) in your email to us.
PDF’s only, please. Really, just PDF’s.
Send your PDF file by January 20 to frequencyprovidence@gmail.com.
Winners will be announced via email by January 23.
Scholarships can be applied to any Frequency class through August 2013.

Also, if you appreciate how we’re always, you know, trying to make writing classes more accessible to everyone, and you kind of feel moved to get in on that action, we’re happy to accept donations of scholarship money. Bonus: If you donate $80 or more, you can name a scholarship pretty much anything you want, like In Memory of [Dead Grandma]. Or the Alice Munro Wingding Deluxe. Or Eggplant. You could call yours the Alan Shawn Feinstein. We’re pretty open here. The point is, we like helping people learn how to write better and have fun doing it, and we like to keep pesky old money from getting in the way whenever we can.

HEDY ZIMRA SCHOLARSHIP
Established in honor of Hedy Zimra, a brilliant writer, an open and generous friend and teacher, and a Rhode Island native, this $200 scholarship is awarded to a woman over thirty whose writing suggests a special gift for humor, pathos, or—like Hedy’s writing—both.
